Woman facing court for importation of commercial quantity of drugs

Facing Court

ACT Policing arrested a 48-year-old Hughes woman yesterday (Thursday, 8 July 2021) for the importation of border-controlled drugs as a result of an ongoing police investigation.

On Thursday, 24 June 2021, a parcel scheduled for delivery to the woman was intercepted by police. AFP Forensic investigations confirmed it contained more than a kilogram of the controlled substance gamma-butyrolactone (GBL).

The GBL was replaced with an inert substance and delivered to the woman’s residence yesterday.

The woman was arrested shortly afterwards, and taken to the ACT Watch House. She will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Friday, 9 July 2021) charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, attempted possession of a commercial quantity of an unlawfully imported drug and failure to comply with a 3LA order relevant to a serious offence.

Anyone with information about the importation, distribution, manufacture or supply of drugs in the ACT is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
