Water police

Does this float your boat?

This picture was taken in 1969, in the early years of the ACT Water Police. Oh buoy, check out those socks!

ACT Policing’s Water Operations originated in 1963 to respond to distress calls from the public who got into trouble in Canberra’s waterways.

Fifty-three years later, the Water Police can still be seen diving the depths of Lake Burley Griffin, patrolling the waterways and hanging out with their piers.
