15-year-old to face court for serious assault

A 15-year-old boy is set to face the ACT Childrens Court this morning (Monday, 3 July 2023) after a serious assault left a 14-year-old boy needing reconstructive surgery.

On Saturday (1 July 2023) police received reports of an altercation in the Canberra Centre that had occurred about 4pm the previous day.  

The incident saw a 14-year-old boy taken to hospital. He will require surgery for significant injuries. 

On Sunday, 2 July 2023, officers arrested the 15-year-old and charged him with inflicting grievous bodily harm. He is set to appear in court today.   

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident on Friday and urge anyone with information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
