66-year-old man charged with indecently assaulting 16-year-old girl

A senior referee participating in a national football tournament will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after he allegedly indecently assaulted a 16-year-old referee.

On Tuesday (4 July 2023) ACT Policing received reports of incidents that occurred during team building activities conducted prior to the tournament.   

Police will allege the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon (1 July 2023) with several people witnessing it.   

Last night, officers attended the man's accommodation and placed the 66-year-old under arrest. The New Zealand resident has been charged with one count of indecency against a young person under special care.   

Enquiries relating to this matter are ongoing.   

Police are urging any victims of indecent or sexual assault to report these criminal activities to police by attending a police station or calling 131444.  

You can also submit an online report for historical sexual assault for incidents that occurred more than six months ago.
