ACT Policing launch online reporting

ACT Policing has launched its online services portal, providing an additional way for the Canberra community to report certain incidents, submit requests, and provide information to police.

The portal will allow the community to report non-urgent, minor property damage and vandalism incidents via a new online form.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman MLA said the project was the result of collaborative work between ACT Policing and the ACT Government.

“The online services portal has been developed over three years, in consultation with the ACT community and key stakeholders including the ACT Government, which provided $400,000 for the project as part of the Police Services Model,” Minister Gentleman said.

Importantly, online reporting is an additional method of reporting, which will complement existing channels. People can still report non-urgent matters to 131 444 or by attending a police station. In an emergency or life-threatening situation, always call Triple Zero (000).

Deputy Chief Police Officer for the ACT, Assistant Commissioner Doug Boudry said online reporting will see benefits for both the community and police.

“Online reporting will provide the community with greater choice and more convenience to report non-urgent property damage and vandalism incidents to police,” Assistant Commissioner Boudry said.

“Harnessing the power of digitisation and technology will also facilitate better decision making by ACT Policing in the assessment, triage, and dispatch of our resources.

“Enabling this reporting to be done online will free up our call takers to respond to more serious, time-critical matters, allowing us to serve the community more efficiently.

“I want to emphasise this – if it’s happened, report online; if it’s happening, call 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.

“I also want to assure the community they will receive the same level of service from ACT Policing, however they choose to report an incident.”

People can report non-urgent property damage and vandalism incidents that occurred in the ACT online using any digital device if they are over 13 years of age, have a current email address, and phone number. The person reporting online must either be the victim or reporting on behalf of the victim.

Following submission, a response acknowledging receipt of a report will be sent, followed by an assessment outcome within 48 hours. If a report is accepted, the assessment will include an ACT Policing reference number which can be used when contacting police in relation to an incident.

Additional forms available on the portal include reporting of historical sexual assaults, petrol drive offs, collisions, as well as requesting information or services from police, and submitting information about parties or out of hours contact details for businesses.
