A 42-year-old off duty Australian Federal Police (AFP) officer has this morning faced the ACT Magistrates Court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a family violence incident overnight.

The officer involved has been suspended from duty.

The AFP is committed to its members behaving at all times in a manner that upholds the AFP’s core values, and the organisation’s reputation and integrity.

Chief Police Officer for the ACT Justine Saunders said that this matter has been referred to AFP Professional Standards and will be treated extremely seriously.

“An incident involving any AFP member is very concerning. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what role you have in the community any form of violence is not tolerated by ACT Policing.”

As this matter is before court it would be inappropriate to make any further comment.
