Burglar interrupted by resident in Forde

A 19-year-old woman will face Court today (Tuesday 28 June 2016) for property, burglary and assault offences after a resident located her on his property yesterday afternoon.

About 3pm on Monday (27 June 2016), a man returned to his home in Forde to find the offender in his back yard.

A struggle ensued with a neighbour assisting the man to restrain the offender until police arrived.

At 3.04pm, the offender was arrested and transported to the ACT Watch House.

Police identified a number of items in her possession including a set of keys, later identified to be the keys to a stolen motor vehicle. This vehicle was subsequently located by Police.

Police investigations into the vehicle and further suspected stolen property are continuing.

The 19-year-old woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with burglary, unlawful possession of stolen property and common assault.

On this occasion the quick response by the home owner and neighbour to contact police assisted in a rapid resolution of the matter.
