Fisher man charged following acts of deception

A 38-year-old Fisher man has been charged with three offences following his arrest yesterday morning.

Following a number of reports of a man approaching people seeking money, police located and arrested the man at about 8.45am yesterday morning (Sunday, 16 May 2021) at a bus stop in Weston.

Police will allege the man approached a number of elderly people seeking money based on numerous false stories. In some cases money was provided to the man.

He was subsequently charged with obtaining property by deception (x2), possession of stolen property and providing false details.

He was provided Watch House bail with conditions and is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on 28 June 2021.

Residents are reminded that if they are approached by a person seeking money they should question the legitimacy of their story. Approaches can be reported via Crime Stoppers. If at any time you feel unsafe in the presence of the person then call police on 131444.
