Fourth driver loses licence on the spot

ISN (2)

Since legislative changes came into effect at the end of June, ACT Policing has issued their fourth Immediate Suspension Notice for excessive speeding on ACT roads.

About 8:20pm last night (3 July 2023) a member from the Major Collision Team pulled over a grey Mazda travelling along Erindale Drive, Fadden.

The 21-year-old was recorded driving 133km/h in a posted 80km/h zone.

When officers spoke to the woman she produced a NSW Provisional drivers licence and was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice and an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending her right to drive in the ACT for 90 Days.

She will be fined $1847 and accrue six demerit points.

Police are able to use recently enabled legislation changes that allow officers to immediately suspend a driver’s licence and seize a vehicle for up to 90 days when excessive speeding occurs.

Police continue to urge Canberra drivers to slow down. Excessive speeding puts not only the driver and their passengers at significant risk, but also puts other road users in danger.
