Girls charged after violent assault

Charged with assault

Two girls aged 11 and 14 have been charged following a violent assault yesterday afternoon.  

About 5.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 5 April 2023) police patrolling in a northern suburb were directed to an injured teenage girl near a fast-food outlet.  

The girl was transported to hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.  

Soon after, police were provided with a video showing the forcible confinement and a prolonged and violent assault of the teenage girl.  

The video showed two girls confining the third girl, before they repeatedly punched, kicked and kneed the girl. They also threatened the girl with further assaults if she spoke about the assault.  

The two girls believed to be responsible for the assault were identified by police and soon after, were arrested in their homes. 

The 11-year-old and the 14-year-old have both been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, joint commission forcible confinement and threatening a participant in a criminal investigation.  

Both are scheduled to appear in the ACT Children’s Court today (Thursday 6 April 2023).  

Police are urging any witnesses to the assault to please come forward.
