Infringements issued after reports of rural speeding

On Sunday, 21 August 2022, ACT Road Policing issued seven infringements in the Uriarra area after reports of speeding were made by local residents.

Among the offences detected were a 55-year-old Queanbeyan (NSW) man riding his motorcycle at 152km/h in the 80km/h zone. He was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice (TIN) for $1841 and will accrue six demerit points on his licence for speeding by more than 45km/h.

Police also detected a driver whose vehicle registration had expired in May 2019. This man was issued TINs totalling $1600 for using an unregistered vehicle with no compulsory third-party insurance. He also had to arrange for his vehicle to be towed to Canberra, and alternative transport for himself.

The man informed police he had moved house several times since his registration had lapsed, and police are now reminding road users to keep their licence and registration details current to ensure they have appropriate coverage by third-party and other insurance. Address details can be updated in a matter of minutes via the Access Canberra website.
