Man arrested on family violence and weapons charges

A 20-year-old Evatt man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 16 May 2023) following his arrest on family violence and weapons offences.

On Monday, 15 May 2023, ACT Policing arrested the man after being called to a disturbance at his residence.

Police arrived at the residence about 5.20pm and after speaking to a person who alleged they had been assaulted by the man, located him nearby a short time later.

A search of a backpack being carried by the man revealed a flick knife, knuckle-dusters, a conducted energy weapon and a canister of pepper spray, and a later search of a neighbouring yard located a short sword. All these items are considered prohibited weapons in the ACT.

The man has been charged with four counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, two counts of aggravated property damage, and single counts of possessing an offensive weapon with intent, common assault, attempted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, choke/suffocate/strangle another person, and aggravated reckless threat to kill a person.
