Man caught drink driving twice in 24 hours to face court

Charged with drink driving

A 33-year-old man from Braddon will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 24 April 2023) after being caught drink driving twice in a 24-hour period.

About 12.10am on Saturday, 22 April 2023, police had cause to perform a traffic stop on a purple Mazda 2 on Batman Street, Braddon.

The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result. The man was subsequently taken to City Police Station, where he returned a breath analysis of 0.180, more than three times the legal limit.

The man was issued an immediate suspension notice suspending his right to drive for 90 days.

About 11.30pm on Saturday, 22 April, police were conducting mobile patrols in the City when they observed the same purple Mazda 2 allegedly being driven by the same man on Cooyong Street, Braddon.

Police performed another traffic stop, and subjected the driver to another roadside breath test, which again provided a positive screening for alcohol. He was again transported to City Police Station, where he returned a breath analysis of 0.096, close to twice the legal limit.

The man was subsequently arrested and has been charged with two counts of drive motor vehicle with alcohol in blood, and a single count drive while suspended.
