Man charged with arson following tattoo business fire

Charged with multiple offences #2

A 28-year-old man has been charged with arson and other offences following a fire at a tattoo business in Braddon in June.

About 5.30am on 19 June 2023, ACT Fire & Rescue were called to a fire at a tattoo business in Eloura Street, Braddon.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the scene indicated the fire had been deliberately lit.

An investigation was commenced and CCTV from the area identified an aqua coloured Toyota Celica that was allegedly used by the offender. This vehicle was confirmed as being stolen the day before from a residence in Macgregor. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Braddon.

Forensic examination of both the fire scene and Toyota Celica led police to identify a 28-year-old man. He was subsequently arrested yesterday (Thursday 24 August 2023) at a facility in Fyshwick.

The man was charged with arson, take a motor vehicle without consent and breach of parole. He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday 25 August 2023).

As the man was on bail for other serious offences at the time of his alleged offending, bail will again be opposed.

Investigations into other people who participated in the arson incident are continuing.
