A 42-year-old Pearce man is the latest recidivist offender arrested by ACT Policing’s Operation TORIC.

About 3.40pm Monday, 30 January 2023, Operation TORIC officers observed a silver Peugeot 307 with stolen number plates affixed on Ginninderra Drive.

After officers followed the Peugeot to Hyndes Crescent, Duffy, the driver attempted to evade them by accelerating heavily and crossing to the wrong side of the road.

About 4pm, police received a report that the Peugeot had been abandoned by four occupants near Dixon Drive, Duffy. Officers quickly located the three passengers nearby, and commenced a foot pursuit of the driver, who they arrested a short time later.

A roadside drug screening test resulted in a positive indication for a prescribed drug.

Police checks revealed that the man was disqualified from driving until April 2024, and was on bail for similar disqualified driving offences. His bail included conditions not to drive, or be in the driver’s seat of, a motor vehicle.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 31 January 2023) charged with disqualified driving, dangerous driving, drug driving, unlawful possession of stolen property, use unregistered vehicle, use incorrect number plates attached to vehicle and breach of bail.

This is the seventh time this man has been charged with disqualified driving since February 2017.
