Man charged over suspicious fire in Phillip

A 37-year-old man has faced the ACT Magistrates Court today charged in relation to a suspicious fire in Phillip.

On the evening of 14 August 2018, police attended Dundas Court, Phillip where a business was reported to be alight.

ACT Fire & Rescue attended and extinguished the fire. Following an analysis of the scene, police and fire investigators believe the fire to be suspicious.

Following an investigation, a 37-year-old man has been charged with arson. He faced court today where he was remanded to next appear on 27 September, 2018.

Detective Acting Station Sergeant Mark Rowswell said the result of this investigation was assisted greatly by members of the public.

“This man has been identified from a number of CCTV images provided by nearby businesses in Woden, and we would like to thank those who provided footage for their assistance in this matter,” Detective Acting Station Sergeant Rowswell said.
