ACT Policing has issued a driver with five infringement notices for driving with unrestrained children.

About 4.45pm yesterday (Monday, 26 February 2018), police received a report of a man driving a vehicle with unrestrained children on Hindmarsh Drive, Phillip.

The vehicle was stopped by officers who observed three unrestrained children in the backseat and a child in the boot.

The man was issued with five infringement notices, three for no seatbelt (1 year older but under 7 years), one for seatbelt not adjusted/fastened/restrained and one for travel in/on part of vehicle designed for carrying goods.

The infringements totalled $2056 and 12 demerit points.

Acting Officer in Charge, Traffic Operations Paul Hutcheson said seatbelts are a proven safety feature that save lives.

“If you don’t wear a seatbelt and are involved in a collision, your chance of being seriously injured or even killed significantly increases.”

“Always ensure children are restrained correctly, even when travelling at low speeds or on short trips.”
