Man to face 23 charges after phone scam

Charged with multiple offences #2

A 23-year-old Taylor man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a mobile phone delivery scam worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In February 2023, ACT Policing was advised about a criminal enterprise where people had attempted to fraudulently obtain mobile phones.

While delivery of more than $4.5 million worth of phones was stopped, some (worth more than $850,000) were delivered, activated, and subsequently sold offshore.

Yesterday (Thursday, 1 June 2023) ACT Policing investigators, with the assistance of Telstra and Australia Post, executed multiple search warrants within the ACT. 23 phones and a considerable amount of paperwork were seized.

The 23-year-old man was arrested and will face court today (Friday 2 June 2023) on 23 counts of obtaining property by deception.

Police are actively seeking other people involved in this matter, investigations are continuing, and further charges are likely to be laid.

Anyone with any information about this criminal operation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via Information can be provided anonymously.
