Man to face court after attempted aggravated robbery

Facing court

ACT Policing arrested a 20-year-old Palmerston man following an attempted aggravated robbery in Civic on Wednesday night (9 November).

The male victim and his girlfriend were crossing Akuna Street towards the intersection of city walk when they were approached by the offender and a group of young men.

The offender stood directly in front of the man shouting loudly and demanding the victim’s wallet. When the man tried to leave, he was struck by the offender.

A passerby tried to assist the victim and was also assaulted by the offender.

About 9.15pm police arrived and located the man who matched the description of the man and proceeded to arrest him.

The offender fled from police custody and a foot chase ensued. He was arrested a short time later and taken to the ACT City Watch House.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (10 November) on charges of attempted aggravated robbery, escape from custody and knowingly obstruct/resist a territory public official.

We remind people they should not report crime via our Facebook or Twitter pages.
