Man to face court; extradited from Queensland

Facing court

A 30-year-old man has been extradited from Queensland to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, 11 September) in relation to number of aggravated robberies committed in 2014.

Between 13 April and 13 July 2014, five aggravated robberies were committed around the ACT at the Swinger Hill and Chapman IGA, Hello Sexy in Fyshwick, Waramanga General Store and Macka’s Griffith Newsagency. Investigations commenced into each incident, which were determined to be linked. Detectives identified an offender and warrants were issued for his arrest.

The man, who was remanded in Queensland, was released from the Woodford Correctional Centre on 8 September 2017 and was arrested by Queensland Police on behalf of ACT Policing. On the same day, members of ACT Policing Criminal Investigations attended the Brisbane Magistrates Court and successfully sought the man’s extradition.

He will face the ACT Magistrate’s Court this morning (Monday, 11 September) where police will oppose bail.

Acting Crime Manager, Detective Sergeant Mark Steel commended the hard work that went into the investigation.

“This outcome demonstrates our commitment to ensuring those responsible for these crimes are put before the court,” Sergeant Steel said.

ACT Policing would like to thank Queensland Police for their assistance in this matter.
