Man to face court following serious family violence assault
A 19-year-old Scullin man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 24 May 2023) charged over a serious family violence assault.
About 8am on Saturday, 20 May ACT Policing responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence on McGinness Street, Scullin.
Police allege the man assaulted a 19-year-old woman at the location, allegedly punching and kicking her, and setting his dog on her.
The woman sustained approximately 50 injuries during the alleged assault.
A short time after the incident, the man left the location in a vehicle. Police attempted to locate the man in Hawker and later in the City, but further enquiries revealed the man had fled to NSW.
At about 5.20pm on Monday (22 May 2023) the man was arrested in Yass by NSW Police Force members, assisted by ACT Policing members from Belconnen Station and the Proactive Intervention and Diversion Team. He faced Goulburn Local Court yesterday (23 May 2023) where arrangements were made for him to be extradited to the ACT.
The man has been charged with one count of recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.
