Man to face court for spitting at police

A 30-year-old Charnwood man who was subject to a Good Behaviour Order will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 17 May 2023) charged with assaulting police and other offences.  

About 1.10pm on Monday, 15 May, ACT Policing received reports that a burglary had occurred at a residence on Miranda Place, Melba.  

Police attended the residence and observed CCTV footage, which allegedly showed the man gain illegal access to the property before stealing various items, and officers immediately recognised the man shown in the footage.  

About 5.40pm on Tuesday, 16 May, the man was located at a Melba service station and arrested. During his subsequent intake at the ACT Regional Watch House, the man allegedly spat at police a number of times.  

He will face court today charged with two counts of assaulting a frontline community service provider, and single counts of burglary, theft, property damage, and breach of a good behaviour order.
