A 59-year-old Chisholm man has been caught exceeding the speed limit by 55km/h while riding his motorcycle on the Monaro Highway.

About 3.50pm on Monday 29 May 2023, police were conducting stationary speed checks on the south bound lanes of the Monaro Highway, Symonston.

About this time, police heard a motorcycle approaching their position that they believed to be travelling at high speed. Police checked the speed of the motorcycle using a certified laser instrument, which captured the speed of the motorcycle at 155km/h in a sign posted 100km/h zone.

Police stopped the motorcycle a short time later, with the rider allegedly claiming “he couldn’t see how that could be right” when told how fast he was travelling.

The man was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h which carries a fine of $1,841.00 and 6 demerit points.
