ACT Policing is reminding drivers to secure their loads, following an incident on Morshead Drive, Russell yesterday (Thursday, 1 February 2018).

About 11.10am, a report was received about a beer keg colliding with a motorcyclist travelling northbound after the keg fell from the truck.

ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service attended, and the motorcyclist received minor injuries.

Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations, acting Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman stated:

“This incident is a timely reminder of the importance to ensure loads are secure on all vehicles for the safety of all roads.”

“It is sheer luck that the motorcyclist wasn’t seriously injured or killed.”

Yesterday, ACT Policing joined the NSW Police Force led Operation Rolling Thunder, which focused on heavy vehicle safety and compliance.

Operation Rolling Thunder was Australia’s largest ever heavy vehicle compliance operation involving NSW Police, NSW Roads & Maritime Services, Victorian, Queensland, ACT and South Australian Police Forces.

“Operation Rolling Thunder resulted in more than 5000 heavy vehicles been stopped and inspected with more than 2000 defect notices issued for a range of offences.”
