Police continue to be frustrated by driver behaviour

Less than a week after an appeal to the public to slow down and stop reckless behaviour on our roads, a provisional licence holder has been detected travelling 65km/h over the speed limit.

In the early hours of Saturday, 3 December 2016, police detected a 22-year-old male travelling at 145 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre per hour speed zone on Drakeford Drive in Kambah.

The male driver was issued a traffic infringement notice in relation to travelling at a speed in excess of 45 kilometres an hour over the posted speed which incurred a fine of $1831 and 6 demerit points.

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Ken Hedges said that it is frustrating that these drivers are putting themselves and other innocent people at risk by ignoring set speed limits and road rules in general.

“The risks involved in driving at 145km/h are vast, not to mention unforeseen factors such as wild-life on the road or a broken down vehicle.”

“It is not acceptable to put other people’s lives at risk because you are reckless and ignorant. Speed limits are not optional and we will catch you if you chose to ignore them," Station Sergeant Hedges said.
