Police disappointed in driver behaviour

ACT Policing are disappointed with driver behaviour as they issued several high range speeding, drink and drug driving infringements over the weekend.

The Acting Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations, Ken Hedges said that it appears some ACT motorists have forgotten their obligations when on our roads.

“Whilst the vast majority of people using our roads do so safely and responsibly, we continue to be dismayed by the small number of reckless drivers who seem intent on doing the wrong thing,” Acting Station Sergeant Hedges said.

A small sample of the reckless behaviour from last weekend includes:

• a learner rider caught travelling in excess of 130km/h on Northbourne Avenue (60km/h).

• a provisional driver caught 109km/h in a residential zone (60km/h).

• a provisional driver caught at 111kph in residential area (60km/h).

• a driver caught at 105 km/h in 60 zone.

• a driver caught at 130km/h in 80 zone.

In addition to these speeding infringements, six drink drivers, and six drug affected drivers were detected.

Between Friday and Monday in the ACT, 26 collisions were reported to police, seven of these resulting in injuries.

“These reckless drivers do not deserve the privilege of sharing the roads with other motorists who continue to do the right thing,” Acting Station Sergeant Hedges said.

“This is a reminder to those who choose to ignore speed limits and drive dangerously, you will be caught or worse, injure innocent people. Slow down, it’s not worth it.”
