Police get distracted driver's attention

About 4.55pm on Tuesday (4 September 2018), police observed a vehicle travelling on Coulter Drive, Belconnen.

The driver had a small dog on their lap and was driving with one hand while using a mobile phone.

Police stopped the driver and issued infringements for driving using a hand-held mobile phone and driving with an animal in lap totalling $670 in fines and the loss of 3 demerit points.

Police would like to remind all drivers that road safety is everybody’s responsibility and that anything a driver does that takes their attention away from the road could have tragic consequences for all involved.

Driver distraction is any action that takes a driver's attention away from the road and onto other elements in their environment. This includes using a mobile phone, driving with headphones, tuning your radio, managing children or pets on board, or applying make-up.
