Police investigate suspicious fire in Mawson

ACT Policing is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred in Mawson last night (Thursday, 27 April 2017).

Around 7pm police attended Heard Street after a large amount of smoke was observed coming from the roof of the Serbian Club, which has been closed since 2010.

ACT Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire which had caused major damage.

Following an analysis of the scene police and fire investigators believe the fire was deliberately lit and deemed it suspicious.

The circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated by Criminal Investigations detectives.  

AFP Forensic Services are conducting an examination of the scene and investigations are ongoing.
