Police make drug possession and drink driving arrests
ACT Policing arrested three people on Saturday (12 March 2023); one for drink driving, one for drug possession, and one for both.
About 3.30pm police received a report of a disturbance at a Dunlop residence, and upon responding observed a large amount of broken glass and many items scattered across the driveway.
A short time later, a 45-year-old man drove to the residence, and after exiting his car refused to undertake a roadside breath test. He was taken into custody where he recorded a blood alcohol content (BAC) reading of 0.166, and issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice (ISN) suspending his licence for 90 days.
A search of the residence located 18 cannabis plants growing both outside and inside the residence, with a hydroponic cultivation and temperature control systems being used.
The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (13 March 2023) charged with artificial cultivation of three or more controlled plants and level four drink driving.
About 7.00pm, a 40-year-old Karabar (NSW) woman who failed to appear in court on 1 March 2023 attended City Police Station.
Police will allege that during the intake process at the ACT Watch House, 7.9 grams of a substance suspected of being methylamphetamine was discovered in the woman’s handbag, with an estimated street value in excess of $7,000.
The woman will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday on a charge of possessing a drug of dependence.
About 8.15pm officers on patrol observed a man exit the driver’s seat of a black Range Rover Evoque in Hackett while carrying a can of alcoholic drink.
Police checks confirmed that the 20-year-old Narrabundah man had never held a driver’s licence. As an unlicenced driver, he is subject to a 0.00 blood alcohol limit.
When subjected to breath analysis at City Police Station, the man recorded a BAC of 0.161, and issued with an ISN banning him from applying for or obtaining a licence for a period of 90 days.
The man will answer to charges of level four drink driving, unlicenced driving and breach of good behavior obligations in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
