Police seeking witnesses to late-night central Canberra assaults

ACT Policing has made three arrests in connection with two assaults in the central Canberra night-club precinct on the weekend, and is seeking further witnesses to the incidents.

The first incident took place shortly after 2am on Friday, 28 April 2023, after six men had a verbal altercation in a kebab shop on London Circuit, which escalated to a physical exchange on East Row.

The victim lost consciousness and required urgent medical treatment by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics and in hospital.

The alleged offender, a 21-year-old Macgregor man, was located nearby about 2.25am and arrested. His charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm is scheduled for mention in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, 11 May 2023.

The second incident occurred about 3.10am on Saturday, 29 April 2023, after two women were ejected from a licenced premises on Bunda Street.

Despite members of the public attempting the separate the women, the victim received several blows to her face, head and body.

Police arrived at the scene about 3.13am and arrested a 22-year-old Curtin woman. A second woman, a 24-year-old from Gilmore, was arrested on Sunday, 30 April 2023. Both are scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on 15 May 2023 charged with affray.

Police have obtained CCTV footage of both incidents, but would like to speak to anyone who witnessed, or who may have video footage of either incident.
