Speeding driver detected from over 1km away

On Tuesday evening, 21 November 2017, ACT Policing detected a motorist travelling at 105 kilometres an hour (km/hr) in an 80 km/hr speed zone on Horse Park Drive, Moncrieff.

The driver was detected by police from a distance of 1110.5 metres.

The provisional driver was stopped by police and spoken to before being issued a traffic infringement notice, which incurred a $409.00 fine and a loss of three demerit points.

ACT Policing reminds motorists they do not have to see police for police to see them.

ACT Policing will be focusing on the ‘Fatal Five’ for the month of November, which includes speeding.

The ‘Fatal Five’ are the five highest contributing factors to fatal vehicle collisions on ACT Roads.

These are:

• Alcohol or Drug impaired driving;
• Not wearing a seatbelt;
• Speeding;
• Intersections; and
• Driver Distraction.

Six people have died on ACT roads this year.
