A man has made a lucky escape thanks to the assistance of professional rafters at Angle Crossing Road, this morning (Saturday 18 July).

While detouring from an earlier accident on the Monaro Highway, the 75-year-old driver from Isabella Plains has ignored two safety signs and driven his Hilux into fast moving flood water approximately 1.5m deep and become stranded.

With flood waters rising and emergency vehicles en route, professional kayakers on scene were able to use their safety equipment to rescue the man who had managed to get on the roof of the car.

The kayakers were able to assist rangers by attaching their winch to the truck, pulling it from the water.

The elderly man was wet but unharmed in the incident.

Police are strongly urging motorists to obey all safety warnings and to not drive through flood waters.
