Teens to face court for burglary and motor vehicle offences

Two Belconnen-area teenagers will face the ACT Children’s Court today (Monday, 5 June 2023) charged with burglary and motor vehicle offences.  

About 2.50am on Sunday, 4 June 2023, police allege the teenagers – a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy – accessed a home in Flynn while the residents were asleep, stealing a wallet, phone, and the keys to a white Mercedes Benz 200 CLA sedan. The teens then left the area in the Mercedes.  

Police further allege about 6am, the teens used a credit card from the stolen wallet to make a purchase at a service station in Charnwood.  

After receiving initial reports of the burglary about 8.30am, police attended the service station and observed CCTV footage, where officers immediately recognised the pair shown in the footage.    

About 11.55am, the teens were arrested at a residence, with the keys to the stolen Mercedes allegedly found in one of the teen’s jackets.  

The 15-year-old has been charged with obtain property by deception, drive stolen motor vehicle, Aid/Abet burglary, joint commission motor vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property.  

The 14-year-old has been charged with burglary, theft, joint commission motor vehicle theft, and drive stolen motor vehicle.
