Three men rescued after being stranded overnight

UPDATE

ACT Policing is reminding the public to be prepared after three men went missing while rafting on the Murrumbidgee River at Angle Crossing, Tharwa on Sunday (17 December) evening.

About 6pm, the men entered the river in an inflatable raft with the intention to travel downstream. When the men did not arrive at their designated pick up location, they were reported missing to police.

ACT Policing officers, Rural Patrol, and the Water Police, commenced a search for the men.

About 8am on Monday (18 December), two members of the group were able to contact police. One of the males was injured and remained in the river with the raft until police were able to rescue the man. The injured man was airlifted to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Officer-In-Charge of the Tuggeranong Police Station, Station Sergeant Greg O’Ryan said people should always make the proper preparations.

“It’s important people know what they’re up against and prepare accordingly. Food, water as well a torch is essential items to take with you.”

“It was good the men had notified friends of their planned route and estimated time of their journey, which greatly assisted in the search. If you see anyone in trouble on our waterways, contact police on 000 in an emergency,” Station Sergeant O’Ryan said

“With the festive season upon us and many celebrations occurring near our waterways, it is a timely reminder to the public that if you’re under the influence do not enter the water, you can easily get into trouble.”
