Watch out for our vulnerable road users

ACT Policing is reminding motorists to take care on the roads and watch out for our vulnerable road users.

Acting Traffic Operations Officer In Charge Station Sergeant Stephen Booth said Canberrans should always take care when on the roads but be mindful of sharing the road and be especially careful around our vulnerable road users.

“Cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians do not benefit from the protection that a car provides during a collision, which makes them vulnerable road users”

“This means that even a small crash between a car and a cyclist, motorcyclist or pedestrian could result in serious injuries or death”

ACT Policing are actively focusing on road user behaviour in an effort to dramatically improve on last year’s devastating road toll in which 15 people lost their lives on Canberra roads.

“I urge all road users to be patient and courteous when out on the road and be especially alert to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motor bike riders”.

In addition to the 15 lives lost last year, there were 603 collisions on our roads resulting in injuries.

Acting Station Sergeant Booth said “it doesn’t matter if you are driving a car or a truck, riding a bicycle or a motor cycle, you need to be aware of your surroundings and show respect for your fellow road users”.
