Witnesses sought after woman struck by car in Monash

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) is calling for witnesses to a collision in Monash on Friday afternoon (September 5) in which a 20-year-old woman was struck and critically injured by a vehicle on William Hudson Crescent.

Around 4.30pm on Friday, the victim had been returning to her vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, which was parked on the nature strip some metres from the roadway, and had opened her driver’s door to re-enter the car.

A white Chrysler 300C, driven by a 26-year-old Monash man, has collided with the driver’s side of the Corolla and also struck the woman, trapping her under her vehicle.

Acting Superintendent Traffic Operations Rod Anderson praised the quick-thinking actions by a Monash resident, who used a trolley jack to lift the damaged car, freed the woman and placed her in a recovery position before ACT Ambulance officers then came to her aid.

“By stepping in and assisting, there’s little doubt this man helped reduce the trauma on the woman,” Supt Anderson said.

The woman, a US National visiting Australia, remains in a critical but stable condition in The Canberra Hospital.
