Woman to face court for theft and assaulting police

ACT Policing has arrested a 35-year-old woman after she and two men allegedly stole several hundred dollars' worth of alcohol from a liquor store in Kambah.

About 11.45am yesterday (Monday, 3 July 2023) officers attended the store in response to a report that alcohol had been stolen.

A short time later, officers located three people matching the descriptions of the offenders cycling along a nearby footpath. When officers approached the trio, one of the men fled the scene on a bike while the other two were detained by police.

When officers searched their backpacks, they allegedly found the stolen alcohol and a small silver hatchet. The duo were then placed under arrest.

When officers tried to transport the 35-year-old woman to their vehicle she resisted arrest and proceeded to hit, kick and bit the officers.

After several warnings, police utilised OC spray to get the woman into the vehicle however two officers received minor injuries during the arrest.

The woman, who was on a good behaviour order at the time of her arrest, will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with two counts of assaulting a frontline community service provider, possession of stolen property, weapon possession, obstruct/resist a Territory official and breaching a good behaviour order.

The man was released from police custody and will be summonsed to court at a later date.
