Young persons caught after property damage spree

ACT Policing apprehended six young persons after a series of property damage incidents in Wanniassa last night (Tuesday 5 January 2016).

About 11.40pm, police received reports that a number of young people had been seen damaging mail boxes in Sainsbury Street and breaking windows at Wanniassa Hills Primary School on Langdon Avenue, Wanniassa.

Members of ACT Policing Tuggeranong Patrol attended and located a number of people near the school, subsequently apprehending them a short time later.

One person was in found possession of a knife, and police identified several damaged mail boxes, windows and streetlights in the vicinity.

Six young people were transported to Tuggeranong Police Station to assist in police investigations. They were later released into the care of their parents or guardians.

Police will proceed with the matter in relation to offences including possession of a knife in a public place, property damage and trespass. 

Wanniassa residents who identify damage to their property this morning are urged to report the matter to ACT Policing on 131-444.
