Unlicenced driver caught with drugs and cash

Facing Court

A 32-year-old Rivett man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 30 March 2021) for drug and driving charges after he was arrested on Monday in Moncrieff.

Police conducted a traffic stop after they observed the man driving while not wearing a seatbelt.

The man attempted to flee from police on foot and was arrested a short time later. He was found to be in possession of approximately 41 grams of a substance, believed to be methamphetamine (ice), with an estimated street value of $31 000.

A police search of the vehicle then revealed a satchel containing a large amount of cash. A subsequent test on the driver returned a positive result for drugs.

The man will face court today charged with trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of crime, unlicenced driving, and drug driving.

ACT Policing urges people with information regarding drug dealers to contact Crime Stoppers. Information can be provided anonymously on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
