Police seize hundreds of cannabis plants in Dunlop

ACT Policing has seized hundreds of cannabis plants following a search warrant at a home in Dunlop today (Thursday 1 April 2021). 

About 10.00am this morning police executed the warrant and discovered six rooms had been converted to growing hydroponically cultivated cannabis.

Due to unsafe electrical diversions, the exact numbers of plants being grown are not available at this time.

ACT Policing Officer in Charge – Major Crime, Detective Inspector Marcus Boorman said the size of the seizure was significant and showed sophisticated drug-growing operations were still present in Canberra.

“Whenever large-scale growing operation like this are found, criminal operations running them for profit are never far away, that’s why it is important for police to get these drugs off our streets,” Detective Inspector Boorman said.

“I remind the community that large-scale cannabis growing operations like this are still illegal, and to report suspicious activity to police.

“Among the signs which may indicate the presence of cannabis growing system are blocked-off windows with extremely well-lit indoors at all hours, ventilation fittings on the roof, or hoses and pipes being used for water and ventilation purposes.”

ACT Policing will continue to target and disrupt the illicit production, distribution and trafficking of drugs in the ACT.
