Two people to face court on theft and driving offences

A 31-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, 16 August 2019) for theft and driving offences.

On Tuesday (13 August 2019), police will allege the pair stole mobile phones worth approximately $5000 from a Belconnen business.

About 1.30pm on Wednesday (14 August 2019), police observed the suspects in a black Mazda 6 in a carpark in Fyshwick.

As officers attempted to stop the Mazda, the driver drove the car into the police vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.

Police made attempts to intercept the vehicle in north Canberra suburbs, however this action was ceased due to community safety concerns.   

About 1.20pm yesterday (15 August 2019) police identified the man and woman travelling together in a silver Holden Commodore from north Canberra to south Canberra.

The pair got out of the car and entered a shopping centre in Greenway.

A short time later, police arrested the 31-year-old woman trying to sell property identified as being stolen from the Belconnen business.

The 31-year-old man was located shortly after and was arrested after attempting to flee.

The 31-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences including arrest without warrant person on bail, joint commission theft, drive while licence suspended by law, crash – not give particulars to other driver, arrest without warrant – breach of parole arrest and two property damage charges.

The 31-year-old woman has been charged with joint commission theft, drive while disqualified and arrest without warrant person on bail.
